A Legacy of Purpose
As World Landscape Architecture Month draws to a close, we find ourselves reflecting on our role in this vital profession. From the verdant parks that serve as our communities’ green hearts to the thoughtfully designed spaces that bring users together, landscape architecture shapes the way we live, work, and connect. This month’s celebration has reminded us of both our roots and our vision for the future.
The Visionary’s Path: Olmsted’s Enduring Principles
Frederick Law Olmsted, the father of American landscape architecture, understood that thoughtful design could be a powerful instrument for social change. His revolutionary approach to design went beyond mere aesthetics – he saw landscapes as a means to strengthen democracy and build community. He believed everyone, regardless of their social class, should have access to green spaces. Additionally, Olmsted pioneered the integration of naturalistic elements into his designs, creating spaces that seemed to emerge organically from their surroundings. His signature winding paths and hidden grottos weren’t just beautiful; they were intentional choices that invited exploration and wonder amid the landscape’s topography, in turn making public spaces compelling and engaging for people of all backgrounds. His belief that beautiful, accessible spaces could heal social divides and nurture community well-being continues to inspire our approach.

Building Tomorrow’s Communities: Our Modern Vision
As a dynamic land planning, landscape architecture, and civil engineering firm committed to building a bright future for communities throughout the state, we carry forward Olmsted’s legacy while meeting contemporary challenges. Our work is guided by core values that emphasize positive environmental impact, continuous innovation, and unwavering commitment to community well-being. Like Olmsted, we believe in the power of thoughtful design to transform spaces and lives, while embracing diversity of people, ideas, and values. Our commitment to transparency, accountability, and sustainability shapes every project we undertake. Whether we’re designing a neighborhood that will create a sense of community or creating a peaceful healing garden for its users, we see each project as an opportunity to weave together human needs with environmental stewardship. Our team brings not just technical expertise, but genuine passion for creating spaces that tell stories and foster connections.

Principles in Practice: From Vision to Reality
This vision is demonstrated across a diverse range of projects completed over the years, showcasing the impact of purpose driven design. At Del Webb Carolina Arbors, a decade-long endeavor to construct 1,300+ active adult residential units, we’ve watched our vision unfold as walking trails wind through preserved natural areas, and robust amenities that provide elite community spaces. At Snow Hill Veterinary Clinic, we are constructing a 2-phased campus supporting the health and wellness of a wide variety of animals and pets, complete with a welcoming outdoor space that provides comfort and respite for the patients and their owners. The layout and design of Summit Church’s Chatham Campus reflects the communities’ desire to protect their rural landscape while leaning into the congregation’s spirit of openness and community engagement. These projects exemplify our belief that the best developments don’t impose themselves on the landscape – they grow from it.

We’re proud to be part of this evolving story. Our forward-thinking approach embraces new technologies and innovative solutions while never losing sight of our core mission: creating spaces that enhance communities and respect our environment. Through each project, we strive to tell a story of sustainable, accessible, and beautiful design that will inspire generations to come.
