Civil Designer II

Qunity, a well-respected Civil Engineering and Landscape Architecture firm in Durham, is seeking a Civil Designer with two to five (2-5) years of Land Development experience to join our team immediately. This position will report to an Engineering Project Coordinator and will make technical contributions towards the success of projects and design teams.

We are looking for a motivated individual who possesses creative and innovative design skills and can work in a team-oriented environment. Experience and familiarity with various municipal site plan and construction drawing approval processes is strongly desired. Our projects include all site development aspects of residential, commercial, office, municipal, institutional, and industrial development throughout the southeast. Typical responsibilities will include:

  • Work as part of a high-performing team to design all aspects of site design using Autodesk Civil3D software
  • Produce technical calculations, conceptual and detailed design drawings for site plans, construction drawings, and permitting packages
  • Perform research and prepare engineering reports for stormwater management, storm drainage, erosion control, and others as needed
  • Assist with the preparation of local, state, and federal permit applications to support the project
  • Analyze technical problems develop new or improved techniques, approaches, and alternative solutions
  • Focus on quality and ensure the Firm’s QA/QC process is followed
  • Communicate with PM’s and technical staff to understand project scope of work, schedule, and budget
  • Participate in team/project meetings
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management
  • Conform in all respects with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, ordinances, and other orders and to all company policies, procedures, and directives from supervisors

For a Civil Designer to be successful in their role, they should possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program is required
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience as a civil designer, project engineer, or engineering intern
  • Engineer Intern (E.I.) or the ability to obtain within 6 months desired
  • Highly detail-oriented and possess excellent organizational / problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to prioritize and complete multiple tasks as assigned
  • Strong time management and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • AutoCAD Civil3D proficiency is required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Bluebeam REVU, etc., is desired
  • Preference will be given to applicants experienced with site, utility, and storm drainage layout and design, stormwater management plan design, hydrologic and hydraulic calculations, and site grading.

Civil Engineering Project Coordinator

Qunity, a well-respected Civil Engineering and Landscape Architecture firm in Durham, NC is seeking a full time Civil Engineering Project Coordinator with a minimum of seven (7) years of Land Development experience to join our team immediately. The position will work in conjunction with a Landscape Architecture Project Coordinator to assist with the management of a Land Development team, report to an Assistant Vice President, and will contribute technically to the success of projects and design teams.

We are looking for a motivated individual who possesses creative and innovative design skills and can work in a team-oriented environment. Experience and familiarity with various municipal site plan approval processes is strongly desired. Our projects include all site development aspects of residential, commercial, mixed-use, office, municipal, institutional, and industrial development throughout the southeast. Typical responsibilities will include:

  • Manage staff and provide mentoring for junior staff
  • Oversees the design of Land Development projects, providing leadership to junior staff.  Promotes, establishes, and assures quality on all projects and work performed by our team; assigns personnel to project teams; monitors and manages project tasks and schedules to ensure projects are completed on budget and schedule; performs technical reviews of project documents; and supervises junior staff.
  • Manage the production of technical calculations, conceptual and detailed design drawings for site plan, construction drawing, and permitting packages
  • Manage research and preparation of engineering reports for stormwater management, storm drainage, erosion control, and others as needed
  • Manage the preparation of local, state, and federal permit applications to support the project;
  • Assist Project Managers on project related tasks;
  • Analyze technical problems, develop new or improved techniques, approaches, and alternative solutions;
  • Focus on quality and ensure the QA/QC process is followed;
  • Communicate with PM’s and technical staff to understand project scope of work, schedule, and budget;
  • Participate in or lead team/project meetings;
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management

For a Civil Engineering Project Coordinator to be successful in their role they should possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program is required
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience as a project engineer or engineering intern
  • A valid NC Professional Engineering (PE) license is required
  • Highly detail oriented and possess excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members
  • Strong time management and analytical skills
  • Effective Client Relations and public speaking capabilities
  • Effective written communication skills
  • Possess a focus on quality and the ability to perform quality control review
  • AutoCAD Civil3D proficiency is required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel. Bluebeam REVU desired
  • Able to work independently and manage/schedule a team

Landscape Designer III

Qunity, a Civil Engineering and Landscape Architecture firm in Durham, NC is seeking a full time Landscape Designer III with a minimum of five (5) years of experience to join our team immediately. The position will report to a Landscape Architecture Project Coordinator and will contribute technically to the success of projects and design teams.

We are looking for a motivated individual who possesses creative and innovative design skills and can work in a team-oriented environment. Essential responsibilities follow:

  • Assist with creation and editing of landscape and site drawings using AutoCAD 
  • Manages and maintains our office CAD standards and file system 
  • Visualize projects through both hand and digital graphic techniques 
  • Conduct research for code requirements and design options 
  • Actively assists in the Quality Control throughout the project 
  • Manages deadlines for on-time submittals to maintain the overall project’s schedule. 
  • Complete site analysis, landscape architecture design, and renderings for assigned projects 
  • Works on multiple project tasks prioritizing responsibilities 
  • Completes drawing/project responsibilities within scope and budget 
  • Perform internal/external coordination of the site design including layout, hardscape, furnishings, planting, grading and tree survey 
  • Enhances final plan sets with exceptional attention to details 
  • Perform quality control reviews and activities to ensure safe, high-quality products are delivered to our clients 
  • Inspires high level of performance from the team 
  • Maintains client relationships 

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture or comparable field 
  • Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD, Adobe Creative suite, SketchUp, InDesign and Lumion 
  • Knowledge of Landscape Architecture design and methods 
  • Demonstrated communication, drawing, and rendering skills 
  • Sound technical expertise in conceptual design, construction documents and construction observation 
  • Effective constructive and cooperative working relationships with others 
  • 5 years of experience

Landscape Architecture Project Coordinator

Qunity, a Civil Engineering and Landscape Architecture firm in Durham, NC is seeking a full time Landscape Architecture Project Coordinator with a minimum of five (5) years of experience to join our team immediately. The position will report to a Project Manager or Assistant Vice President and will contribute technically to the success of projects and design teams.

We are looking for a motivated individual who possesses creative and innovative design skills and can work in a team-oriented environment. Essential responsibilities follow:

  • Assists in the execution of projects including technical, client coordination and permitting issues, under the direct supervision of the Project Manager 
  • Supports office leadership 
  • Actively assists in the Quality Control throughout the project 
  • Assists staff in the production of their work 
  • Leads and mentors design professionals 
  • Ensures that all steps and procedures are followed throughout the local jurisdictional requirements 
  • Interface with clients as required including periodic project status updates 
  • Function as a liaison between the production personnel and the project manager 
  • Maintains profitability goals and schedules for projects set by Manager 
  • Assigns and directs efforts of staff including the approval of staff timesheets 
  • Inspires high level of performance from the team 
  • Conducts business development as directed by Manager 
  • Strengthens client relationships. Ability to grow key relationships while marketing the Firm’s services to existing clients is a large part of this position 

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture or comparable field. 
  • Registered Professional. 
  • Thorough knowledge of landscape architecture design and methods related to site development. 
  • Advanced knowledge of federal, state, and local codes and permitting requirements. 
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to represent the organization externally. 
  • Effective constructive and cooperative working relationships with others. 
  • 5 years of experience
